FAQ
Does cropping recompress my image?
Yes. The crop is re-encoded in the chosen format: JPG, WebP and AVIF use lossy compression by preset, while PNG gets lossless optimisation. Check the output size before downloading.
Can I crop at a fixed aspect ratio?
Yes. Presets cover free, 1:1, 4:3 and 16:9, and "Custom" accepts any width-to-height ratio (e.g. 3:2, 16:10). Pick a ratio and drag the crop box to adjust the position.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Cropping and encoding run entirely in your browser; your research data never touches a server.
Can I export at an exact resolution (e.g. 1280×800)?
Yes. Switch "Output size" to "Exact size" and enter the target width and height (up to 8000px per side). The crop box locks to the matching ratio and the result is scaled to exactly that size: smaller than the selection means downscaling, larger means upscaling (slightly soft).
