MangoWrite Browser Extension

See a great paper? One click into your library.

On CNKI, Wanfang, PubMed, arXiv, IEEE and other journal pages, one click captures full text and citation metadata into your MangoWrite library. It only acts when you click, and stops at login walls, captchas and paywalls.

Install steps

  1. Download the ZIP and extract it to a permanent folder (the extension loads from there — don't move or delete it later)
  2. Type this address in the address bar to open the extensions page: chrome://extensionsBrowsers block websites from linking there directly — please type or paste it yourself
  3. Turn on the “Developer mode” toggle on that page
  4. Click “Load unpacked” and pick the folder you just extracted
  5. Come back to this page and click “Connect now” to finish pairing

How to update

Manually installed extensions don't auto-update. When a new version is out, the extension shows a notification, and the extension button in this site's top bar and the extension popup both flag it. To update:

  1. Download the new ZIP and unzip it — you get a mangowrite-extension folder
  2. Drag it onto the old install location and replace the folder (first upgrade from 0.1.6 or earlier: the folder name differs, so remove the old extension on the management page and “Load unpacked” the new folder instead — once only, pairing is preserved)
  3. Come back here and click “Reload extension” below to finish

You can also finish on the extensions page — click the reload icon on the extension card: chrome://extensions

FAQ

The browser nags about “developer mode extensions” on every startup?

That's the standard reminder for every manually installed extension — click “Keep”. Switching to the store version removes the prompt for good and updates automatically.

Why can't it install with one click like normal extensions?

Chrome and Edge only allow one-click installs from their own stores — a platform rule, not an extension issue. We recommend the store version for automatic updates.

Which browsers are supported?

Any Chromium-based browser: Edge, Chrome, 360, QQ, Sogou (speed mode), etc. Firefox and Safari are not supported yet.
